First-year manager Mike Matheny of the St. Louis Cardinals has autographed these rare Miami Marlins Inaugural Game — “Marlins Park Opening Night” — Official Rawlings Major League Baseballs.

On April 4th, 2012, the Miami Marlins opened the MLB season by hosting reigning World Series Champion St. Louis for the historic first game at the team’s new stadium. Rookie skipper Matheny led the team to a 4-1 victory, making it his first MLB win as a manager and the now historic first win at Marlins Park.

These baseballs include a double inscription from Matheny. His customary “John 3:17″ and a celebratory “1st Win!” adorn his signature just below the commemorative logo. You’ll note that logo itself if quite special. These are the rare one-game-only balls featuring the date of the inaugural game, as well as the added Cardinals and Marlins logos underneath the commemorative Marlins Park logo.

This ball was originally commissioned by the Marlins as a very limited gift for team officials and VIPs attending the inaugural game. It is an Official Rawlings leather MLB, Commissioner Allan H. Selig stamped baseball.

We are offering the best of the lot for $49.99  plus shipping. Each ball comes with an Official Certificate of Authenticity from Stan the Man Inc. complete with matching individually numbered hologram stickers on the ball and the COA.

BigLeagueBaseballs received a small supply from this exclusive signing – most of these are the “extras” and “seconds” that were pulled by the dealer due to minor flaws/smudges in the ink signatures and inscriptions. Therefore, we’re lucky to be able to offer these to auto collectors at a discount. In most cases, as you can see in the pictures, the ink remains in excellent condition.

Payment can be made via PayPal – PayPal fees are covered by us and included in the price. Once the near mint versions are sold out, we will offer the more severely smudged versions at a deeper discount.
